I recently came across a web site called Prairie Journal, containing several really great photos of the northern lights.  These are also called Aurora Borealis.  I never saw anything like these until we moved to North Dakota.

 Some of the pictures at Prairie Journal show multi-colored northern lights.  The kind I have seen most often have been green, but I have seen some red ones, too.  I love watching them shift across the sky.  Sometimes it seems like they have a life of their own.
