In a special ceremony at Memorial Hall in the state capitol building today (December 26, 2007), Gov. Hoeven and First Lady Mickey Hoeven officially proclaimed that today was Snow Angel Day.

North Dakota first won the Guiness World Record title for the most snow angels made simultaneously in 2002.  Michigan won the title in 2006.  This past February North Dakota took the title back, with a little less than 9,000 people participating.  People from 142 towns and seventeen states participated in the event, which was held at the capitol mall.

High school art was displayed in Memorial Hall at the commemorative celebration.  Professional artist booths were housed in the nearby North Dakota Heritage Center.  There were also free carriage rides around the mall.

Several volunteers were recognized at the event.  Gov. Hoeven said the world record title demonstrated North Dakota’s competitive spirit and emphasized family, fun and volunteerism.
