Heitkamp Speaks On Working Women Defining Success
0 Comments Published by gwen March 16th, 2008 in North Dakota People, Uncategorized.Heidi Heitkamp, former North Dakota Attorney General, spoke in Minot Friday about the challenges working women face. Andrea Johnson reported on this for Minot Daily News. From the article:
Heitkamp called for a new definition of feminism. Women need to be liberated from false expectations, unfair judgments and be free to live in the real world, she said. They also should feel free to say “no” and not to feel guilty about it, she said. Heitkamp said she’s sick of gurus who come up with new schemes for helping women to be organized.
One of the things I enjoyed most about what I know of Heitkamp’s speech was its focus on a realistic definintion of success as something do-able, not the over-achieving perfectionism that many working women strive for.
Hurrah for Heitkamp’s common sense.
