Watch For The New Progress Edition
0 Comments Published by gwen February 20th, 2009 in Uncategorized. It’s been a year since the last Progress Edition published by the Bismarck Tribune. This is always a fun way to catch up with what the state is doing (and how). I’m thinking the progress edition looking back at 2008 should be out pretty soon. Meanwhile, here’s a link to the 2007 issue. Enjoy.
Brian Duggan’s Blog: Worth Checking Out
0 Comments Published by gwen February 20th, 2009 in Uncategorized.Take a look at politics from another viewpoint: Brian Duggan, the politial writer for the Bismark Tribune is fairly new to North Dakota. I just recently discovered he had a blog. I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to get a feel for the state and its politics. Besides being an excellent writer, Duggan is observant and fun. As [...]
Introducing The Asteroid North Dakota
0 Comments Published by gwen February 20th, 2009 in Uncategorized.Next to the no-smoking-in-cars-with-children-present bill being pushed forward by a group of seventh grade students, writing about the asteroid North Dakota is probably the most fun thing I’ve covered this legislative session. During the press conference, Vishnu Reddy, the UND graduate student who discovered the asteroid said only around a dozen states have asteroids named after [...]
North Dakota Anti-Abortion Bill Makes National News
0 Comments Published by gwen February 20th, 2009 in Uncategorized. For personal reasons, I’m very much in favor of the anti-abortion bill written about here, but I’m also very happy with the fact that North Dakota is once again making national news. The article doesn’t fully explain the bill. Instead, it features some of the exeriences that Rep. Dan Ruby, R-Minot is having because of it. [...]
A recent conversation about some of the old buildings in Europe got me thinking about North Dakota’s much more recent (but still historic) buildings. I was thinking specifically of the Custer House, which I remembered being told was haunted. Curiousity got the better of me again, and I had to go looking to see if [...]
Chairman Of Turtle Mountain Band Of Chippewa Is Also ND State Senator
0 Comments Published by gwen February 9th, 2009 in Uncategorized. This is one of my favorite articles to have written so far this session. Sen. Marcellais, chairman of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa is, in my opinion, completely capable of handling the issues that come up both in the state and for the tribe. On top of it all, he’s got a great sense [...]

The High Plains Regional Outreach Center, Inc., which began in 2006 works hard to watch out for the people coming from tribes within North Dakota boundaries. [...]
Bakken And Carbon Sequestration Could Be A Winning Situation
0 Comments Published by gwen February 7th, 2009 in Uncategorized.Another post on the Bakken from Energy and Capitol can be read here. Although oil activity has slowed down some in the Bakken over the past few months, I’ve understood that there are some contracts worth three years there. That’ s long enough for oil prices to jump back up and become profitable enough to make [...]
A North Dakotan In The White House
0 Comments Published by gwen February 7th, 2009 in Uncategorized.According to this Bismarck Tribune article, Jodi Gillette of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and director of the Native American Training Institute will be serving in the White House as the deputy associate director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. There are five Native American reservations within the boundaries of North Dakota. If I understand [...]
This Would NEVER Happen In North Dakota
0 Comments Published by gwen February 7th, 2009 in Uncategorized. This would never happen in North Dakota–mostly because we don’t have tides here. Which means we will probably never have tsunami. Another reason North Dakota consistently ranks as one of the top safest states… But I think the article about the crashed war ship is interesting, anyway.
