It appears that Detroit is taking notice of North Dakota.
A little more than a year ago, North Dakota regained the world record for the most snow angels made simultaneously.  More than 8900 people participated in the event, including a couple of women in their eighties.
According to KX television, a radio station in Detroit is challenging [...]

Thanks to Flat and Treeless for posting about this article and bringing it to my attention…
There are some parts of the nation where the real estate industry is doing well in spite of the widespread housing slump.  According to this New York Times article, some cities in North Dakota (Grand Forks and Bismarck, for instance) are [...]

Behind global warming issues are social issues, including how and when Americans can come to satisfactory agreements on how to use our energy resources.
North Dakota has great potential for renewable resources and a vast reserve of fossil fuels.  Defining–and perhaps combining–our viewpoints may be crucial to our ability to produce and export excess energy to other states.
A short video clip posted on the [...]

Every six weeks, United Printing publishes a small glossy magazine called City Magazine.  Stories are drawn mostly from the Bismarck-Mandan and Dickinson areas.  Besides addressing social issues like teen alcoholism, the magazine brings out some of the best and brightest things happening in our community.
I like the young entrepreneur success stories.  I like the question-and-answer articles with prominent community leaders.  I [...]

Beautiful North Dakota photos

Oh, wow!
Today I visited ND Opinions.  On the left side of the blog page is a section showing Flickr photos tagged North Dakota.  They’re well worth a glance or two.
My favorite of that bunch:  Storm’s a Brewin’…bright yellow canola fields against a heavy blue sky.  It’s breathtaking.
ND Opinions is worth a look, too.
More North Dakota [...]

North Dakota’s wind energy potential is enormous.  Some estimates show that North Dakota has more wind energy potential than any other state in the nation.  The trouble is, we don’t have enough transmission lines to export the wind energy as effectively as we would like.
I was pleased this morning to see that Otter Tail Power [...]

Northern Lights

I recently came across a web site called Prairie Journal, containing several really great photos of the northern lights.  These are also called Aurora Borealis.  I never saw anything like these until we moved to North Dakota.
Some of the pictures at Prairie Journal show multi-colored northern lights.  The kind I have seen most often have been [...]

Back To Blogging

If it isn’t apparent, I’m just getting back to blogging after a few weeks of very little online-time.  I know I’ve missed  commenting on a couple of really great stories about North Dakota.  I’ve also missed commenting on the little things I’m learning about North Dakota just from living here.
Like the fact that the Bismarck [...]

Take a look at this article from TMC News (you have to get around a survey to see it, though):
I’ve never heard of homeshoring before today, but it makes sense.  Why outsource out of the country when there are people here in our own nation who are willing to do the jobs from home?  The technology [...]

Another great article, this time from Minot Daily News, and probably published elsewhere as well:

Value of N.D. crops reaches record level

By BLAKE NICHOLSON, Associated Press

BISMARCK —?The value of crop production in North Dakota last year reached its highest level on record, paced by demand that drove up prices for spring wheat, corn and other commodities, [...]
